Torkil Gudnason

Torkil Gudnason is a Danish-born photographer who has been based in New York since 1978, working across fashion, fine art, and still life for over four decades. His fascination with vibrant, exotic colours – a stark contrast to the long, dark Danish winters of his childhood – runs like a thread through his diverse body of work. Torkil’s signature style blurs the line between art and commercial photography, bringing an artistic sensibility to campaigns for brands like Guerlain and Lexus, as well as editorial features for Vogue Italia.

His work has been exhibited both in the US and internationally, with a client list that includes Estée Lauder, Piaget, and Montblanc, and portraits of cultural icons including Catherine Zeta-Jones, Beyoncé, Liv Tyler, Miloš Forman, Rosario Dawson, Diane Kruger, Isaac Mizrahi, Lars von Trier, Andie MacDowell. André 3000, Björk, Sean Lennon, Gong Li, Udo Kier,Mikhail Baryshnikov, Christian Lacroix, Bette Midler, Sharon Stone, Jamie King, Andrée Putman, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Elizabeth Hurley, Christy Turlington, and Kate Moss. Whether shooting high-fashion editorials or fine art projects, Torkil’s bold use of color and light remains unmistakably his own.
